# Upstage API

> Use this when you want to install and connect the Upstage API custom app to use Upstage's document OCR and AI features in Make.

The Upstage API app lets you use Upstage AI features such as document OCR in Make. It runs on your
Upstage API key alone, without the Magic Meal Kits server.

## Install

Install **Upstage API** from the Showcase using the shared steps in
[Installing custom apps](/guides/custom-apps/overview).

## Get an API key

    Sign up and log in at the [Upstage console](https://console.upstage.ai/login).

  <Step title="Create a key">
    On the [API Keys page](https://console.upstage.ai/api-keys), create a new key and copy it.

  <Step title="Connect it in Make">
    Paste the key when you create the connection for an Upstage module in Make.
  </Step>
